Featured specs on iOS 10.3

Here we are following the latest updates for iOS by Apple Inc. This is been a great time being with iOS 10x on apple devices and these are some extra ordinary features of iOS 10.3.

In this new year 2017, we may see more updates of iOS, the mobile operating system of Apple Inc. as we have never been able to observe. Earlier we reported that Sonny Dickson, known for iOS news leaks, has unveiled in his Twitter profile that the tech giant Apple will soon begin testing iOS 10.3 as early as on January 10, 2017, at which time the first beta will be released.
In addition, it has also revealed that in this new version a new feature called Theatre Mode will be included, which will be activated through an icon in the form of popcorn through the Control Centre.
Although little more is known about Dickson’s operation, it could be an improvement of the dark mode optimised to have the active device in theatres without generating any kind of conflicts. Also, echoes Forbes, Dickson notes that the new version of iOS 10.3 would be developed under the code name of “Erie.”
So, apart from all these things the tech giant Apple has finally released the first public beta version of its latest iOS update, giving us a flash of the new features that are simply expected to soon arrive in its iPhones, iPads, and iPods.

But, hold on, as many of you might be thinking that the most awaited feature, of course, the “Theatre mode” will be also there in the public beta version. Here comes the twist, and I bet this twist will really make you upset. Yes, the most awaited feature “Theatre mode” is notably absent from this public beta version.

However, several Apple rumour media platforms like BGR, Apple Insider, and Mac world clearly hinted or indicated in several ways that the tech giant Apple was set to release a new screen mode which will simply dull the colours on the screen for better low-light viewing.

In any case, it will be a matter of time to leave doubts to know if it is really going to introduce the Theatre mode or not. But, until then let’s check out the four best features of the iOS 10.3 update:-

1. Apple ID profile

In this new update, we will get a new profile section at the top of the settings menu with all your account information. Even, it will also show you a list of all the Apple devices linked to these accounts.

2. Weather in Maps

With this new feature, you will now have a flash of the weather wheresoever you go, as this update adds a tiny weather bug that will show the current weather conditions in that area and the seven-day breakdown of the weather.

3. iCloud Storage Breakdown

This new feature will show you that how you are actually using your iCloud storage and to do so, you have to click on the iCloud option > Then simply Tap the graph at the top > That’s it now you are done from here you can see the graph which will simply show you that how much space or storage are being used by each. Hold on, as the tech giant Apple may use this space to give you other recommendations to enhance your device’s performance as well.

4. Find my AirPods

Most controversial feature among all, as initially when the AirPods were introduced many people trolled it simply because “What if you accidentally lost your AirPods then how you will find those lost pairs?”. Now you don’t have to worry about that, as this new feature will simply show you the last known location of the AirPods when they were paired with your phone and even you can also ping them simply to ring them. So, for now, the tech giant Apple has not yet unveiled the official release date for iOS 10.3 update, which indicates that these new expected features are still subject to change. However, for now, to get the official announcement simply we have to wait.

Instant Apps now on Android™

The tech giant Google has finally started to roll out the long-awaited Instant Apps feature which simply allows the users to test the apps without installing them.

It was during the last conference I/O that the tech giant Google announced it was preparing a new set of applications for Android. These would simply waive the installation of applications on your smartphone for use. There was no date for this arrival, but the tech giant Google showed that this would be one of its priorities. For the result seems to be in sight, with the first Instant Apps arriving soon, coming from a limited group of programmers.Instant Apps are what Google understands to be a revolution in the way how mobile applications are distributed since Apple launched the iPhone and the whole concept of associated apps.

These will simply allow users to test and use the applications without having to install them, saving time and resources on their smartphone. Hence, the tech giant Google was to prepare them and announced now the first extensive tests.
Applications that are ready to be used in this new mode are still limited, but Google has supported the programmers who started testing. They will still be limited to a small group of users so that they can give concrete information on what needs to be improved and optimised.
But as normal with Google, these tests will be extended, and soon many more users will be able to test the versions of the Buzz Feed, Wish, Periscope and Wiki applications that have now been released.Any programmers who want can also develop their applications to run in this mode. These do not need to be revamped, just by changing some components will simply make the application portable.
The tech giant Google’s bet on Instant Apps is great. This will allow users to test and use new applications without having to install them on their smartphones, freeing them from the consuming resources. Instant Apps should arrive for everyone later this year (2017) for all versions of Android.

Samsung reveals the reason behind exploding note 7

After months of silence following a global recall of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone last October, Samsung disclosed its lengthy findings as to what caused the device’s batteries to overheat and catch fire. Based on the company’s own investigation and independent scientific analysis of the issues by three consulting bodies, the overheating was caused by separate problems in batteries sourced from two different suppliers.

In the case of batteries sourced from Samsung SDI, there wasn’t enough room between the heat-sealed protective pouch around the battery and its internals. Because the phone was so slim, tight quarters placed stress on the upper right corner of each battery. In the worst scenarios, that caused electrodes inside each battery to crimp and come into contact, leading to thermal runaway and short circuiting.

In the case of batteries sourced from Amperex Technology Limited, some cells were missing insulation tape, and some batteries had sharp protrusions inside the cell that led to damage to the separator between the anode and cathode. The batteries also had thin separators in general, which increased the risks of separator damage and short circuiting.

The findings were announced after testing 200,000 devices and 30,000 batteries in a giant charging and recharging test facility built for the task. Samsung mobile communications chief D.J. Koh says a team of 700 company engineers conducted internal testing, and independent reviews of potential problems were carried out by UL, Exponent, and TÜV Rheinland.

The company offered this explanation at a press event in South Korea Sunday. Samsung did not provide details about its prior quality-control procedures, but the company says it has overhauled its safety testing process as a result of the investigations.

“We are taking responsibility for our failure to identify the issues arising out of the battery design and manufacturing process prior to the launch of the Note 7,” Koh said at the conclusion of the event.

From Dream Phone to Nightmare
As far as smartphone battery sagas go, this one was packed with twists, turns, and then a whole lot of silence. In September, weeks after the Note 7 launched, Samsung issued an initial recall of 2.5 million devices after several phones experienced overheating issues. By the time the US Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a formal nationwide recall two weeks later, nearly 100 dangerous battery incidents had been reported in the United States.

The first fix seemed straightforward—if annoying—to early Note 7 buyers. Samsung had purportedly pinpointed the cause of the problem: It had used two sources for the Note 7 batteries, and the ones made by Samsung’s own component division seemed to be faulty. Just trade in your fancy new Note 7, and they’d replace it with a new phone powered by the safer battery. You could tell if your phone had the safer battery inside it if the battery meter was green instead of white.

But then those “safer” replacement phones started overheating and catching fire. It even happened on an airplane when a replacement device was unplugged and powered off, in cooperation with FAA instructions.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Samsung had misdiagnosed the problem when issuing the first recall. Batteries from both of the Note 7’s suppliers were susceptible to similar problems. In October, Samsung expanded its recall and stopped Note 7 production entirely.

Silence and Speculation
After the October recall, very few additional details were released. Instead, Samsung concentrated on making sure people weren’t still using the Note 7, even resorting to pushing out updates to all Note 7 phones to brick the devices.

This wasn’t the only battery-related scare of 2016, as the CPSC recalled a half-million “hoverboards” due to similar conflagratory problems. Those scooter issues were largely blamed on low-cost batteries—ones that likely had internal flaws and impurities that caused short circuits—that were churned out to meet demand for a hot craze.

But the Note 7 debacle shows that any lithium-ion battery, including those made or sourced by big-name companies, aren’t immune. And now that our devices are ever slimmer, more powerful, and more important for a full day’s communication, it may exacerbate the danger.

“It’s all about size,” says Jay Whitacre, who researches materials science and engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. “Lithium-ion batteries are two- to ten-times more energy-dense than other battery technologies, and getting more use time without having a huge phone is a big deal.”

For smartphone users, that energy density helps give tiny devices long battery life; the Note 7’s 3,500mAh battery was built to get through a full day. Whitacre says that Lithium-ion’s efficiency comes at a price. It’s the only mainstream battery chemistry that uses a flammable substance as an electrolyte, so while it’s more efficient than battery technologies with water-based electrolytes, such as nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride, it also presents a greater fire risk.

But every smartphone has a lithium-ion battery inside it, and the Note 7 presented wildcards that stoked speculation.

Samsung said it explored any potential problems involving system software, manufacturing, and Note 7 hardware during its months-long investigation. They tested with the phone’s iris-scanning feature turned on and off, downloaded third-party apps to see if that had any effect, and tested to see if USB-C charging played a role.

It was Samsung’s first phone with a USB-C port for charging, and it was a quick-charging phone, designed to deliver an 80-percent charge of its high-capacity battery in just 35 minutes. Samsung also included a USB-C-to-MicroUSB adapter in the box, so users could charge the device with older cables.

With all those variables and new technologies packed into the phone, it seemed possible that something could have gone wrong with the phone’s power-management features. But all those tests checked out, according to Samsung and independent researchers. Plus, those components are practically the same in any phone.

“It seems unlikely, since the battery-facing components in most phones are chips that are used broadly in many phones,” Whitacre says. “A cell made to be fast-charged should be engineered to accept the high currents without overheating or having internal shorts. As long as a battery is designed to be fast-charged, it should pose no additional danger.”

Whatever perfect storm of power-management failures could have occurred, they shouldn’t have caused the battery to explode. Safe lithium-ion batteries have features that mitigate disaster in these types of situations, but short circuits and internal battery damage are harder to defend against.

“A well-designed battery with good safety considerations should be able to safely fail in the event of a faulty control circuit,” Whitacre says. “It might vent or puff up, but not actually burn or flame.”

According to Samsung’s Koh, the company doesn’t just intend to make its own batteries safer. As part of its new safety procedures, Samsung will safety-test batteries at every point in the manufacturing process. They’ll also train employees at every level of the supply chain.

As for its own phones, the company is designing a new compartment to give batteries more space inside the phone and combat damage from physical drops. Koh finished the event by saying that Samsung will share its lessons with the entire industry to improve overall lithium-ion battery safety.

Command prompt tricks and hacks

Command prompt tricks and hacks

The Windows Command Prompt tool, and many of its commands, might seem boring or even relatively useless at first glance, but as anyone who has ever used the Command Prompt very often can tell you, there's much to love!

I guarantee that these several Command Prompt tricks and other Command Prompt hacks will get you excited about many of the mundane sounding Command Prompt commands like telnet, tree, or robocopy and so many of them. Some of these Command Prompt tricks and hacks are special features or fun uses for the Command Prompt itself, while others are just neat or relatively unknown things you can do with certain CMD commands. Whatever you do, don't miss the crazy trick where you can watch the entire Star Wars Episode IV movie, for free, from right inside the Command Prompt.

  • Use Ctrl-C to Abort a Command

Just about any command can be stopped in its tracks with the abort command: Ctrl-C. If you haven't actually executed a command, you can just backspace and erase what you've typed, but if you've already executed it then you can do a Ctrl-C to stop it. Ctrl-C isn't a magic wand and it can't undo things that aren't undoable, like a partially complete format command. However, for things like the dir command that seem to go on forever or questions you're asked at the prompt that you don't know the answer to, the abort command is an excellent Command Prompt trick to know.
  • View a Command's Results One Page (or Line) at a Time

Ever run a command, like the dir command, that produces so much information on the screen that it's almost useless? You're not alone. One way around this is to execute the command in a special way so whatever information is generated is shown to you one page, or one line, at a time. To do this, just type the command, the dir command for example, and then follow it with the pipe redirection operator and then the more command. For example, executing dir /s | more will generate the thousands of lines of results that you expect from the dir command, but the more command will pause each page of results with -- More -- at the bottom of the page, indicating that the command is not done running. Just press the space bar to advance by page or press the Enter key to advance one line at a time.
  • Run Command Prompt as an Administrator Automatically

Many commands require that you execute them from an elevated Command Prompt in Windows - in other words, execute them from a Command Prompt that's run as an administrator. You can always right-click on any Command Prompt shortcut and choose Run as administrator but creating a shortcut to do the same thing can be a huge time saver if you're a frequent Command Prompt power user. To complete this Command Prompt trick, just create a Command Prompt shortcut on the desktop, enter the shortcut's properties and then select the Run as administrator box located in the Advanced button on the Shortcut tab.
  •  Become a Command Prompt Power User with Function Keys
F1: Pastes the last executed command (character by character)
F2: Pastes the last executed command (up to the entered character)
F3: Pastes the last executed command
F4: Deletes current prompt text up to the entered character
F5: Pastes recently executed commands (does not cycle)
F6: Pastes ^Z to the prompt
F7: Displays a select able list of previously executed commands
F8: Pastes recently executed commands (cycles)
F9: Asks for the number of the command from the F7 list to paste

Another Command Prompt trick coming up soon is full of arrow key shortcuts, a few of which are similar to these function key tricks.
  • View a Drive's Entire Directory Structure
I think one of the neatest little commands is the tree command. With tree, you can create a kind of map of the directories on any of your computer's drives. Execute tree from any directory to see the folder structure under that directory. With so much information created with this command, it's probably a good idea to export the results of tree to a file so you can actually look through it. For example, tree /a > c:\treeresults.txt, just as explained in the last Command Prompt trick about redirection operators.
  • Use Robocopy as a Backup Solution
Thanks to the robocopy command, you don't need to use Window's backup software or install a third party program to manage your backups. Just execute robocopy c:\users\tim\documents f:\backup\documents /copyall /e /r:0 /dcopy:t /mir, obviously replacing the source and destination folders with whatever you'd like to backup and where. The robocopy command with these options functions identically to an incremental backup software tool, keeping both locations in sync. You don't have the robocopy command if you're using Windows XP or earlier. However, you do have the xcopy command, which can be used to do something very similar: xcopy c:\users\tim\documents f:\backup\documents /c /d /e /h /i /k /q /r /s /x /y. No matter which command you choose to use, just create a script file containing the command and schedule it to run in Task Scheduler and you'll have your own custom made backup solution.
  • View Your Computer's Important Network Information
Maybe just for your own information, but certainly when you're troubleshooting a network or Internet problem, you'll probably at some point need to know details about your computer's network connection. Everything you'd want to know about your network connection is available somewhere in the Control Panel in Windows, but it's much easier to find, and much better organized, in the results from the ipconfig command. Open Command Prompt and execute ipconfig /all. What displays on screen next is everything important about your network connection: your IP address, hostname, DHCP server, DNS information, and much, much more. Combine this hack with the one about redirection operators that you learned about several slides back and you've got a very easy way to get information about your connection to someone helping you with a problem.
  • Find a Website's IP Address

Like to know the IP address of a website? You can use the nslookup command or the ping command but the former is probably faster. First let's use the nslookup command to find the IP address of about.com: Just execute nslookup about.com and view the result. Make sure you don't confuse any private IP addresses that also show up in the nslookup results alongside the public IP address of about.com, which is what IP address we're after. Now let's try using the ping command to find it: Execute ping about.com and then look at the IP address between the brackets in the first line shown. Don't worry if the ping command "times out" during execution; all we needed here was the IP address. Using either Command Prompt trick, the IP address of about.com is shown as 207.241.148.80. You can use the same procedure with any website or any hostname on your local network.
  • Watch Star Wars Episode IV
Yes, you read that correctly, you can watch an ASCII version of the full Star Wars Episode IV movie right in the Command Prompt window! Just open Command Prompt and execute telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl. The movie will start immediately. Check out the tip below if this doesn't work. True, this isn't a terribly productive use of the Command Prompt, nor is it really a trick of the Command Prompt or any command, but it sure is fun! We can't imagine the work that went in to this!

Tip: The telnet command isn't normally enabled in Windows but can be turned on by enabling Telnet Client from Windows Features in the Programs and Features applet in Control Panel. If you'd rather not enable Telnet but would like to see the movie, you can also watch it in your browser at Star Wars ASCIIMation.
